What a little gem. Such a little unassuming place w great sushi. The Miso soup is excellent, they have a small Chinese menu also so we tried their egg drop soup and it was better than any I've had w lots of egg and not too thick. Their Sushi is imaginative and fresh and the couple that runs the place are so hard working. The only improvement they could make is if they had a larger place so our whole family could go together. Keep up the good work!

The food here is very fresh and tasty. The presentation is great, although the three rolls we ordered were on a plate about the size of the table. The only complaint was the green tea had a bit too many leaves, but this is a minor kink for a new place to have to work out. Will definitely go back soon.

Their name should be changed to 'Yucky House'. The worst sushi I've ever had, and I've had a lot! I ordered a spicy tuna roll, and instead of a fresh whole piece of fish, it was chopped up in small pieces which gave it a very mushy texture. The flavor wasn't great either. The rest of my group ordered Chinese dishes which were equally as bad. The hot and sour soup was bland and watery, the crispy beef was way too garlicky to eat, and the sweet and sour chicken was very greasy and overly fried. Only tried this place since we live close by.

Yummy House is a family favorite. You could call us sushi snobs and we rate YH in our top 5. Also, they have reasonable prices, very friendly wait staff, clean and creative presentation. T.

I have to admit...the name brought me in. My first impression of this restaurant was excellent and it was based solely on the cleanliness. The place is absolutely spotless, including booths, floors and restrooms. I ordered their chicken teriyaki bento box lunch and I was very pleased with the presentation and taste. The salad that was served with the lunch was super fresh and the dressing was very yummy. The miso soup was ok. The california roll sushi was delicious and fresh; the avocado was pure green (cut fresh), the cucumber was crisp and the rice was soft and had great texture. The potstickers were delicious and not too salty and the teriyaki chicken was perfect. Tender, white meat chicken in a perfect teriyaki sauce. I had lunch with a vegan friend today and she was very pleased with the vegetarian sushi platter. Prices were reasonable for lunchtime and everything was fresh and well prepared. I will definitely go back.

This is an excellent place. We sampled Chinese dishes, sushi and tempura. Everything had the perfect texture, great taste and was beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and quite professional.

Ordered carry out once and it was good. Sushi was tasty. Tried a salad with crab - it was good but very small portion. Would return.

This place was unexpectedly good. I had dinner plans with a friend at Sawasdee Thai (across the street, in the Domino's plaza) last night, and when we got there it was closed for the 4th of July. We were both still craving Chinese or Thai food, and we brought up the Yelp app and I remembered that Yummy House was across the street. They have lunch specials (rice, entree, veggie egg roll w/ sprouts) for $6.75, and on the menu posted on the door I saw they had dinner specials for $8.75 (same thing) - however, this is NOT on the actual menu, I had to ask about it. Portions were generous and that's definitely not a bad price for dinner, especially considering you get a heaping amount of rice and also an egg roll. I had the chicken with garlic sauce, the sauce was a little spicy but tasted good. The egg roll is just okay but they give you a plum sauce to dip it in which was yummy. This place is small, they have like 4-5 booths and a sushi counter/station, but I'd definitely come back here when in the area and wanting Chinese (and I'm in the area a lot, since my parents live here!). Good stuff all around.

Great sushi. Decent prices. Love the express dine in (call ahead of time and when you arrive, you can eat it at the table!)

    (5)
  • Todd M.

Great Sushi but on the more expensive side. They have chinese as well for your kids that don't want sushi.

  • Naveen N.

Food is okay but not as spicy as I hoped. Staff is friendly and very polite. They made the food quickly as well

Came here for lunch on a saturday for sushi. The place was empty. The rolls are wayyy overpriced and not that good. I will likely not come back.

Got takeout here again, and the hubby and I were both delighted with our meals. The Szechuan Shrimp and the Kung Pao Chicken both had good flavors and the perfect spice level. The California roll I had was, as always, just lovely. Have yet to dine in....it is pretty small though so either come early or prepare to wait.

I stopped in to try the place, it happened to be empty at 6:30 pm. Several booths and one table were available, so I sat at the table and waited to order. Ten minutes later a lady walked in and said she had a group of 5, and glared at me. The hostess/waitress then approached me and said that I would have to move to a booth to accomadate the party of 5. The booths would accommodate six, but the lady wanted the table. I told the waitress that I really don't like to sit in booths, and the reply was but they have a party of 5 so I would have to move. So I moved out the front door and will not return. I hope the party of five enjoyed their day of attonement meal.

  • Crissy D.

The food was tasty and the prices were good. However, I can't give a higher rating because of the service...it wasn't bad, just slow. It took a longer than average time to be seated and served. I would say this is probably one of those places you should call ahead and place an order for pick-up, instead.

    (3)
  • Ale C.

The food is good, and the option that they had to order online to pickup later is very handy, they have the option of buying in combos. They don't take American Express

  • Valerie V.

Sushi is good, but I suppose a place that does sushi, Chinese and Thai can't be good at it all. The Chicken pad Thai was just awful. No flavor, huge onions in it, sauce was terrible. Maybe just stick to sushi if you go here. We literally could not eat the pad Thai we just ordered.

    (3)
  • Kevin G.

WOW. Nicely decorated inside. Pretty much all booths. Nice sized menu. Okay service but there was a little communication gap. Biggest plus here is the portion size. VERY large sashimi portions. Nice to get more for the same price you would pay elsewhere. Smoked salmon was very good. Eel had a nice flavor. Rolls are normal size. The hot tea could be steeped a little longer as it was very weak. Entrees were good. Will go back in the near future and try again.

This restaurant is next door to one of my favorite breakfast spots so, when looking for a Chinese restaurant one Sunday night (and after consulting Yelp) I tried it. Glad I did. The food was very good. I was with my parents, so we did not venture to the spicy side of the menu or try the sushi. We had the more traditional Orange Beef, Shrimp with Veggies and Almond Chicken. All dishes were some of the best we have had. The restaurant is very small. But if you can get a table, you will not be disappointed.

  • Laura Y.

Server: great. I ordered takeout and when I got home my order was correct. Ambiance:from what I saw the place is cute. It's in a strip mall. The food: good. I had egg rolls, general Tso's chicken with fried rice. The egg rolls were great deep fried and delicious. The chicken was good nothing special I ordered not spicy as I don't like to cry when I eat. I would order from here agin.

I was ready to write a bad review because it took a little long but then I tasted the food. Better than average. Actually pretty good. I had the California roll and the shrimp and avocado roll. I'll be back. I give it 3 stars but only because of the wait.

    (3)
  • Colten D.

Definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. The sushi is also quite good. Nice portions, good service, and excellent entrees. It has good reviews for a reason!

  • Amanda R.

We have only gotten carry out from here when we have been in a bind for some food. It has Chinese and sushi so the options are very good and honestly the food is pretty good too. Their sushi is decent, not my favorite, but it is definitely fresh and not fishy tasting. We have only gotten chicken dishes on the Chinese side and their chicken is great quality and size. They definitely load it up and we have never been able to finish our meals, besides the sushi because their rolls are a bit on the smaller side. I give three stars because we haven't dined in and probably never will because it's not some amazing find, but also because when I've ordered over the phone they never ask for a name or number. When you walk in they speak very little English so it's more of an annoyance to get the correct order since you end up repeating yourself a few times if you're not foreign/used to communicating with foreigns.

GO FOR LUNCH!!! They have the BEST lunch special I've seen! 3 (standard) sushi rolls for $10.95! You can't beat it! Normally, I walk into a sushi joint, I walk out with a $70 bill. I'm not talking $70 in my pocket, I'm talkin $70 gone. I don't know how it happens, but I guess I've got good taste. So normally I order the super mega rolls with lots of sauce and fish. However, here, I ordered a tuna roll, salmon with avocado, and snapper. The lunch rolls came with a miso soup. I was pretty full after I was done. It was very satisfying for such an inexpensive price. The service was great, the fish was fresh. I'll definitely be back on my next day off!

It took me too long to find this place. I've never eaten in, but the takeout sushi is awesome and worth the price. The specialty roll selection is great.

Yummy House has some hits but also a lot of misses. While they have some tasty appetizers like the crab rangoon, their entrees are not great. The chicken usually tastes a little old, the rice is flat. They really have not got the hang of egg rolls yet. They are consistently too large, soggy, and not fully crispy. As an egg roll lover this is disappointing. Also, service is almost always slow. When I get a pickup I usually have to add 15 minutes to however much time they tell me because service is always sluggish. Yummy house is alright, but there are certainly better chinese food places in the area.

    (3)
  • Sam C.

Their sushi is pretty good. Really enjoy the shrimp and avocado roll. They have the best crab rangoons! Definitely recommend. They are they type that are on the sweet side, which I really enjoy. Not a huge fan of their chicken dishes. I don't eat red meat, so I can't comment on any of the beef items. Would recommend for sushi!

  • Chainda M.

Beef and broccoli was delicious. Beef tender broccoli was fresh. Pretty reasonable lunch prices and portions.

    (5)
  • Rebecca B.

It was pretty solid. The server didn't come get me until my companion arrived, which was 30 minutes. They were getting inspected by the health department at the time (they congratulated the restaurant on the way out for a job well done, which is nice) but still a water would have gone a long way. We both got the bento box and tea which we were told was boiling. We had to ask twice more for the tea. And I had to switch the California roll for a avocado roll - that got mixed up. It was pretty good. If I was there again, I would probably try a different restaurant just because Yummy didn't WOW me. That said, if you are around and looking for sushi, give it a try.

Had take out on a day when my hubby was under the weather. Picked up noodles, sushi and spring roll. Everything was delicious! The salmon sashimi was fresh and tasted like butter. Rolls (fantasy and ??) were "yummy". Chicken lo mien was mildly dry. Everything was affordable. We will be back.

  • Jared W.

I was forced back here and since the very bad experience I have been back a few more times. I'm going to bring my review back up as the service and food has been satisfactory on all recent visits. They did fail to make an order of fried rice one day when I was picking up a large carry out order. However I did not place the order so I don't know for sure if it was placed properly. Food wise it's solid American style Chinese food with decent prices. I would not go out of my way to eat there but it's a solid choice if your in the area.

Chicken with garlic lunch special was excellent! Came with fried rice and an amazing egg roll :) Fast and friendly service too.

The food at Yummy House was just as the name states, yummy! This was our first visit and we will be back. The monster roll we ordered was really good as were the 2 other entrees we ordered. The service was great our waitress was on top of filling up out drinks and checking in on us.

  • Eric S.

Excellent sushi. Placed a carry-out order of spicy tuna and a California roll and got it in less than 5 minutes. And it was delicious! Saw people eating Chinese food while I was there and that looked great too. Not much seating but would be fine for a casual meal out.

It took us a long time to find Yummy House - don't know what took so long! GREAT sushi & Chinese dishes (have not tried the pad thai yet.) My only complaint would be that the spicy dishes are not very spicy - will ask for extra heat next time we go.

  • Jannelle Z.

I decided yo try this place because I was in the mood for sushi and it is close to home. The crab salad is one of the better crab salads that I have had at other places. The sushi tasted fresh. The rolls are pretty big.

I've been to this restaurant about a dozen times so yes, I like it here. They serve 2 large sushi pieces per order (which is twice as good as one elsewhere in Michigan). Sushi fish quality is great for Michigan. I would ask what is fresh the day you visit, and owner-chef Steve will serve you the freshest catch. They serve Chinese and Japanese dishes too, albeit toned down some for American taste. Prices are very good (as in cheap). This is a small restaurant, so not good for large groups, but excellent for parties of up to 6. Take out is fast. To sum it up, a good meal for not a lot of money. What's not to like?

Tried Yummy House for the first time tonight. We called in a carry out order for General Tso Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, Crab Rangoon's, and Spring rolls. The Generals also came with egg rolls and chicken fried rice. We had been looking for a Chinese Restaurant after moving to the area and after almost a year, we have found it!!! The staff was friendly and service was quick. The fried rice was very good and the egg rolls were amazing! I really can't complain about anything. After a few bad experiences in this area, Yummy House is a relief. The interior of the restaurant was nicely done and they had a little sushi bar as well. We will go back to also try the sushi. To sum up everything it was Yummy!!!

Killer sushi. Overtipped just because of how awesome it was. Don't miss this place.

This is one of my favorite places! The prices are great, the portions are big (I always get 2 meals out of 1), and the food is really good! The combos are a great deal and are available for lunch and dinner. The sushi is always fresh and tastes great, the restaurant is clean, and the staff are really friendly.

I had wanted to give Yummy House another go and try out some of their Japanese offerings. Today I stopped by for lunch. At 12:30pm the place was empty - I assume people still don't know about this place yet. I sat in a booth in the back. I asked about Hot Tea - but apparently they charge $1.50 for it, same price as for fountain pop, so I opted for a Pepsi to drink. After looking over the menu I opted for the Chicken Teriyaki Bento lunch combo - it comes with a green salad & small miso soup. Normally this combo comes with 4pcs California roll but I cannot eat shellfish and do not care for the imitation crab found in most California rolls. I asked for it without the crab and they had no issue accommodating my request. First out was the green salad and small miso soup. At first glance the salad was slathered in an orangish creamy dressing. Normally I don't like thick creamy dressings but I gave it a taste. It was actually tasty and not as thick as I thought. It had a citrus ginger taste - which reminds me a bit like the dressing Benhihanas uses on their salad. The Miso soup although hot was not as good as I would like. It was thin broth and not enough miso paste. There was ample chunks of tofu, but I thought it was overpowered with seaweed. I had to add soy sauce, black pepper, and japanese chili spice to give it decent flavor. The main lunch took about 10mins to come - it was very well presented in a square box. With 4 main compartments and 1 small compartment. Clockwise from left was the 4 pcs of California roll (sans Crab meat), 2 vegetable gyoza (potstickers), a generous portion of thinly sliced white meat breast Chicken in a generous teriyaki sauce glaze with diced scallions and sesame seeds, and then steamed white rice. In the middle compartment was some sweet pickled ginger and a dab of wasabi. The waitress was very attentive overall bring me extra napkins as well as other condiments. I have to say the Avocado/Cucumber roll and the Teriyaki Chicken were my favorite parts of the lunch. I could of had a huge plate of that chicken in sauce on a bed of rice and would of been happy. The entire time I was there, I saw only another couple sit down for lunch and 4 different people who came in for carryout. I do hope this place is able to gain a good following. I plan to come back soon to try the Beef Teriyaki Bento lunch and maybe the Vegetable Tempura Bento lunch. There are much more tasty items on their menu all with familiar items. I still question the authenticity of the recipes and the food. But when it boils right down to it all that matters did I enjoy my food and enjoy good service. Definitely yes. 5 stars for the food 5 stars for the service.

Always satisfied with online ordering for carryout. We particularly love the portion of fish to rice ratio of the sushi. Dining in is pretty good as well, occasionally poor service.

I ordered takeout at 6:48 on Saturday night and was told 15-25 minutes for my wait. It is now 50 minutes later at 7:38 and I still don't have my food. I've been in the lobby waiting for 25 minutes and I paid 22 minutes ago. This is totally unacceptable for take out. Don't waste your time ordering from this place on a weekend night. They are understaffed. The restaurant is 80% full of diners.

Wow! This place was right in front of me this entire time and I had no idea. Just looked it up on yelp and saw the great reviews and location... I was on the way. The service was amazing and I was just doing a carry out order. But the roll that caught my eye the most was the hurricane roll... Scallop. Crab. Cream cheese. Delish! The price is pretty high. But when I tasted this roll I knew that I would def be going back. It was huge and had so much crab inside! We also got some fresh non fried rolls and the smoked salmon is so fresh! It's clearly pink and not even a little brown like I've seen at other sushi places. The flavor is amazing! And to be honest the price of the non specialty rolls is not bad. All in all I will be back this is def my new sushi place!

Nice veg rolls along with the routine menu...the fried rice (chicken) is also tasty! Small but pleasant place! Great service!

  • Rick B.

Good food, terrible service. Based on about a dozen visits, the restaurant has just one server, and she is extremely quiet and just gives off an unhappy vibe. Most recently, I was here for lunch at 1 p.m. on a weekday, with only one other booth occupied. It took 30 minutes (not an exaggeration) to get our order. Apology, or even acknowledgement of the long wait? Nope. Also, the booth walls are so flimsy, people sitting back-to-back are sure to be inadvertently bouncing each other around. Your best bet for Yummy House: CARRY OUT!

  • Laura E.

We ordered a Dragon roll (shrimp tempura, eel, cucumber, avacado, eel sauce) Very delicious, although the roll was not as tight as other sushi places we have eaten. Not complaining though because, while a little difficult to manuver with chopsticks, was one of the best we have ever had. I had the Mongolian beef (mild spice)....the beef was tender and delicious and came with an abundance of perfectly slivered onion and green pepper. My only disappointment was that the meal came with a side of white rice and nothing else...no egg roll, no soup. And for 10.50, it was a little disappointing considering there was so much veg to meat ratio. My husband ate the Dragon Phoenix which is a combination of Spicy Shrimp and General Tso's chicken..cleverly separated on the plate by a little fence made from halved cucumber slices. Tasted great and fresh! Service was attentive and polite.....My new favorite go to Chinese/Sushi place!

Placed an order online, waited 5 minutes, got in the car and it was ready when I got there. No mistakes. Well packaged. Packed with napkins, plastic cutlery and plenty of sauces. I appreciate that kind of efficiency. You can even order ahead for it to be ready for you to eat it there. That would be helpful to people on a lunch hour. The food was exactly what I wanted. Classic Chinese fare. No frills. Good taste. Plentiful portions. If you order online and spend over $30 there is a $4 off promo code at checkout. For $30 I got enough food to feed 6 people. I've been looking for a Chinese take-out in my area. I finally found it. I just wish they delivered.

A small quite little sushi place, in a strip mall in from of a meijers. They do a good job with the limited menu, sushi roles and sashimi, more typical American version. Good prices, fast service, friendly enough. They also have some Chinese and Thai menu options too, but I stayed with the sushi.

Had never been here before, and i was really excited! The sushi was really fantastic, the shrimp tempura as well as the ginger salad and miso soup were also great. I would definitely recommend it for lunch; my boyfriend and I really had a good experience with the food!

DELICIOUS! That is my first impression of Yummy house. After getting a job in the area, I've been casually trying the cuisine around Commerce and Walled Lake on my lunch break and I was not disappointed in this place. I came in around 1pm on a Thursday and was pretty much the only customer. I get the feeling this place doesn't get too much traffic, since I didn't see another customer the entire time I was there, but don't let that fool you, this place was great. Upon walking in, I was a little confused if it was a seat-yourself format and or wait to be seated, but I figured it was better to beg forgiveness than stand around and wait awkwardly. After I sat down, I was immediately waited on, so perhaps they were just waiting for me to take a seat? -shrug- I had come in deciding on Chinese food, but I'm a sucker for sushi, so I ordered their lunch special Sweet & Sour Chicken and a California roll (just to gain an idea of what their sushi is like, I find that the California roll is a good toe-in-the-water roll, lol). The California roll came first and was delicious, beautifully rolled and presented, I basically scarfed it down and wished I had ordered more sushi. The Sweet & Sour Chicken game with a generous portion of fried rice and an egg roll, both which were delicious. The fried rice was a bit different than a lot of other Chinese places I've visited (definitely a different recipe) but I LOVED it. It just tasted so much more fresh. The Sweet & Sour Chicken came with the sauce on the side which I appreciated but with none of the usual pineapple or green peppers that I've always gotten before with the dish at other restaurants. However the chicken was so perfectly cooked and crispy that I quickly overlooked that. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant where my food was as hot and fresh tasting as Yummy House (not like it had been cooked in a giant batch and then left to sit for awhile) and also where my food didn't feel soggy. I loved the crisp-ness of the breading for the chicken. It was almost like experiencing that dish in a whole new way. I would definitely come here again... and again... and again. The service was friendly and prompt (other than the seating snafu at the beginning) and the food was delicious. Next time, I'm definitely going to try more of their sushi options.

I was skeptical of a Japanese / Chinese restaurant, but proven very wrong. I call in my order and it is ready when I get there and always very yummy indeed. It is very hard to find good Chinese take out in his area, but this place is it.

Ordered a combination of Chinese and Sushi carry out for 8 people. Our guests raved about the quality and taste of the entrees and sushi. I've dined there and have had carry out in the past and am never disappointed. Good job Yummy House!

Tried this place out today, tempted by a 15% off coupon. The location and interior are nothing special, it's a small restaurant accommodating maybe 25 max. I had the hot and spicy chicken lunch, partner had the sweet and sour chicken. Both meals were handsome portions, and both delicious. The chicken is thinly sliced and you can hear the wok bubbling in the kitchen as they cook. Definitely going back!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
